Rome part one

October 12, 2011

Rome was the very first city on our itinerary. We spent just two days there but I think we did a good job seeing most of the highlights.

I really, really loved Rome! I especially loved all the public drinking fountains everywhere! They were so beautiful and the water so cool and refreshing. Not to mention free. It was so much fun stopping to refill your bottle at fountains like this:

Or this:

It spoiled us for the rest of the cities we visited. I kept seeing fountains and wondering if the water was drinkable =P

Rome’s subway worked decently for us in getting to the city and back to our hotel, etc. But it is not nearly as extensive as say the London subway, so we did a lot of walking to get to the nearest station.

Anyways here are a few pictures from Rome (these are just from the Vatican actually):

On our way to the Vatican

Inside St. Peter’s Square

Some monument…I forget what it’s for, but if you pull on it it will spin

I thought the face in the background was unique…

Completely flat painted ceiling made to look beveled!

Another ceiling

Inside St. Peter’s Basilica (which is huge!)

Everything, including the ceilings, was so ornate!

Rocking my sweet knock off 6 Euro Ray Bans lol. The price you pay to keep sun out of your eyes – dumb looking tourist pics haha =)
