Calling India…and Texas?

April 21, 2009

I don’t know how I do it, but I always end up getting really talkative help when I call the customer support either for my cell phone or my credit card… Maybe they are just bored and don’t want to work, who knows… Last time I called AT&T for…I think it was to make sure I could use my new cell phone overseas…I got a major nerd on the other end of the line. Lol, it was awesome. I am not sure what state he was from, I usually ask them…I am going to say he was from Texas… He was telling me about his trip to Europe back in the 70s (which made me realize he was a lot older than he sounded! He sounded college age…) when he travelled around the country…lol, it was funny. He would say things like “oh wow (which sounded like “oh wauuuw” – think nasally) that sounds like a trip of a liiiifetime” and stuff like that. I really wanted to laugh. We had a nice little conversation…well, long conversation… Then today when I called my credit card company…I should have realized that since it was after business hours I would be calling India…but anyways…the guy was very nice and helpful…and he too wanted to chat about traveling the world, lol.  He called me a “globetrotter” lol and I’m like “well, not really, but I do like it…”  He asked if I had ever been to Australia or New Zealand since “Americans usually like to do that.” I told him it was cheaper to go to Europe so…He chatted on about..I am not sure what…Then he told me a story about how a few  years ago some people had kidnapped the president of Australia. But now everything was better and everyone was happy. Okay, I THINK that was the story. At least that’s what I got out of it. We talked for quite a while, he was very talkative, and he was also very hard to understand. I was straining to understand what he was saying, and often I would just say “mhmmm…” and he would keep on talking, lol. So who really knows what happened in Australia, something though…because then he said something to the effect of maybe he shouldn’t have told me that before my trip…

lol, it’s kinda funny talking to people who you don’t know…My brother loves messing with telemarketers and trying to sell them things back… I don’t think I could do that though without laughing..

lol That definately sounds like something Tommy (at least I’m GUESSING it’s Tommy) would do… I don’t think I could do it alone, I’d have to be at a sleepover or something like that with the moral support of friends behind me. lol 😀

lol That was too funny! I’m sure they get bored with their job though, so a chance to talk to someone about traveling and kidnapped presidents must be a nice reprieve from the humdrum work day. 🙂 lol

haha, that is really funny! I can’t mess with them if it’s something I am planning on because then imagining what I am going to say I always get the giggles. But if I do it spontaneously it works, especially over the phone because then you can smile, just keep the laughter out of your voice! It’s fun stuff!

    lol, yes, Tommy…always Tommy… 🙂

It was funny, the Indian guy was all excited when I told him I had been to Fiji…”Oooh, that’s close to New Zealand!” I guess he really likes NZ…lol

That’s true Jane, spontaneity does make it easier! 🙂

lol, yes…I still love Luis’ clarification of Indians…”Casino Indians or 7-11 Indians?” lol

too funny! been there too. i think i also called the philippines! (not my family, at least i dont think so haha but i know my cousin does work at a call center! i think oh well, whatever) but they always call me ma’am. lol. india is the most difficult for me because they say can you speak louder, i cant hear you. and at that time im already frustrated because i even have to call them in the first place AND then i have to yell into the phone. its funny to me when i they find out i live in ca, then they almost always comment about the weather! but i never thought about selling stuff back to telemarketers…ill have to try it. but lately its been recorded messages about how the warranty on my car or whatever is expired and i have to call this 800 immediately.
